Hey, don’t get us wrong. We love making beer. But if you’re gonna live in this world we figure you should do your best to take care of it, whether it’s the environment around you, the community you live in, or, in our case, the industry you work in. So that’s the thinking behind the Heartland Initiative.
Here’s how it works: with five core pillars of focus, the Heartland Initiative serves our community through special programs and partnerships. Our hard workin’ employees designed this program, basing it off our mission, values, and co-founders’ giving spirit. It’s our way of saying thank you to all the folks and places who helped make us who we are today.
We’re setting big goals for the future! Between the launch of this program in 2017 and the end of 2020, we will:
Being neighborly is just how we were raised, and that means we partner with as many charitable organizations as we can to support their needs, with a focus on our non-profit friends in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC. If your non-profit has a need, hit us up on our Sponsorship & Donations form. We’d love to help.
Since we’re beer positive and all, we’re jazzed to support craft beer the best way we can. So we invite interns to spend a summer brewing with us and we teach brewing classes. Preparing the next generation of brewers keeps our industry going strong.
If you work for us, you’re family. And that means we look out for one another and support our employees’ philanthropic passions best we can. That’s why we created the Heartland Series, a quarterly brew that benefits a non-profit chosen by staff. Visit the Resources page to hear the honorees and their stories, as featured on WNRN’s Hear Together.
Since we’re surrounded by nature, we want to do our part to keep it looking nice for a long time. We donate $1 per case of Trail Angel Weiss to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and $1 per case of Striped Bass Pale Ale to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to help conserve our beautiful environment. Head to our Resources page for the deets.
We believe you should walk and leave a small footprint. Sounds like a deep thought, but really that’s just good ol’ fashioned sustainability. And thanks to our recycling, water reduction, and solar energy projects, we’re managing to do just that. To learn about our goals and check our progress, take a peek at our annual Impact Reports.
