Devils Backbone Camp offers an unparalleled camping experience in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, combining a causal camp experience with world-class craft beverages and food.  With a range of sites, from full-hook-up RV to rustic wooded tent sites, we offer a range of camping options for every type of adventurer.  Nestled in a 5-acre bier garden featuring yard games, numerous seating options, and seasonal live music, our Basecamp Brewpub is open daily with 16+ taps, a full bar, and a seasonal menu featuring smoked meats and something for your whole family to enjoy. In addition to our Basecamp Indoor Brewpub, we have our craft Distillery Lounge, Shanty Cigar Lounge, Summit merchandise shop & Meadows Outdoor Bar & Outdoor grill on property to enjoy as well.

 

 

Centrally located in the Rockfish Valley, Devils Backbone Camp is within a short drive of some of Virginia’s best hiking, golf, and skiing.  Only 5 miles to the Skyline Drive and the Reid's Gap trailhead on the Appalachian Trail, whether exploring by foot or on two wheels, you won’t find any shortage of paths or stunning views.  Positioned on the "Nelson 151" route, Devils Backbone Camp is the prime home base to explore our neighboring breweries, cideries, wineries, and distilleries.  With over 20 craft beverage producers within a 20-minute drive, you will find something to suit everyone's tastes. The village of Nellysford offers local dining, shopping a farmers’ market, and a day trip to Charlottesville or Staunton provides extensive shopping, dining, and cultural opportunities. Devils Backbone Camp is the perfect place to come and Drink Outdoors Together.  

  • Non-Electric RV

    These primitive sites offer parking for two vehicles or one vehicle with a pop-up, tear-drop, other trailer, or a B-Class RV or van. Each site offers access to a water fill station, dump station, and our 24/7 Bath House. They all have an individual fire ring with grill top and a picnic table.

  • Group Tent Camping

    These sites are in a more remote area. Great for larger groups, they each have parking for three vehicles, a camping area for up to three tents and up to eight adults. These sites are shaded and include a fire ring with grill top and picnic table. This site also comes with access to the 24/7 Bath House.

  • Tent only Camping

    Tent Only Non-Electric Sites are primitive tent camping sites. They each have parking for one vehicle and camping area for one tent and up to two adult. These sites are shaded and include a fire ring with grill top and picnic table. This site also comes with access to the 24/7 Bath House.

  • Full Hookup Sites

    These pull-through sites offer 30/50/110 electric hookups for water and septic at each site. They are level and full sun and include a fire ring with grill top, picnic table, and access to our 24/7 Bath House. These sites can accommodate 6 adults and up to 3 vehicles.

  • Field Tent

    These seasonal field sites are 20’x20’ grassy sites. Your vehicle as well as your tent must fit in the 20’x20’ space. There is parking for extra companion vehicles a short distance away. 24/7 heated bathhouse with showers and potable water is between 20-200 yards away. Fire ring and picnic table are NOT provided.

  • Field RV

    These seasonal sites are 20’x50’ grassy sites a short distance off a gravel road. They have room for one RV or trailer plus the tow vehicle. There is parking for companion vehicles a short distance away. You have access to a dump station and potable water fill. 24/7 heated bathhouse with showers is approximately 200 yards away. Fire ring and picnic table are NOT provided.

  • Yes, we do! We are always accepting host applications. Hosts stay for one month and in exchange for a no-cost full hook up site, agree to some simple duties. Please complete our online application form for more information.

  • Yes. However, to be the primary responsible adult on a reservation you must be 21+

  • We happily welcome your four-legged-furry dog friends. All pets must be leashed (maximum of 8 feet long) at all times.

  • Sites can fit 1-3 cars depending on site type. All of your vehicles must fit on the gravel of your parking space. Any extra vehicles may be parked in the Day use/Over Flow Parking area (on right after entering camp from Rt664, look for signage).

  • Yes! They can be entered at the time of purchase and verified at check-in.

  • Our cancellation fee is as follows, please get in touch with us promptly if you need to change or cancel your reservation. We are always happy to move your reservation to a new date with no penalties.

    14 days or more before arrival:$10 flat fee

    7-13 days before arrival: 25% penalty

    2-6 days before arrival: 50% penalty

    0-1 days before arrival: No Refund

  • Check-in is contactless, so if you know your site number you can proceed directly to your site. If you need assistance checking in, the DB Camp Shop is open every day from 1-7 pm

  • All reservations are subject to a $3.50 reservation fee and applicable taxes.

    Sites range from $20-$150/night depending on site type and season.

  • Yes, though generators must not exceed 60 decibels at 50’ and their use is prohibited from 10PM to 9AM.

  • No, we ask that you do not move the fire ring or remove the grill. If you move the picnic table, we kindly ask you to place it next to the fire ring before checking out.

  • Specific sites sizes can be found on our website, by viewing the site map and selecting specific sites. Most RV sites are 20 x 90, standard non-electric are 10x40, and tent sites are 20x20.

  • No, ground fires are not permitted in field sites and you must provide your own table.

  • Yes, there is a full service bathhouse located near the primitive camping complete with showers.

  • Not at this time.

  • Yes!

  • We do not have individual sites which can accommodate more than 8 people, however, individuals are able to reserve multiple sites at once and all reservations are site specific allowing individuals to reserve sites within the same proximity. If your group would like to book multiple sites, please contact us at 540-817-9708 so we can create a group hold.

  • Yes, you may bring in your own alcohol. However, open containers are not allowed to enter or exit the perimeter of the camp. Growlers, crowlers, packaged beer and any spirits purchased from the brewpub or DB shop must remain closed until you are in your camp site.

  • No, we ask that guests not bring in firewood from outside the property in order to prevent the spread of wood-dwelling insects and diseases.

  • Yes! Though we do not allow campers to cut standing wood, whether dead or alive. wood. All dead wood on the ground is fair game.

  • Yes, firewood is available for purchase at camper check-in for $8.

  • Yes, if sites are available, walk-up reservations may be made at Camper Check-in.

  • Check-in is at 3pm, and check-out time is 1pm the following day.

  • The maximum stay is 120 days. Two night minimum on weekends. Un-sold sites open to one-night weekend stays 6 days before arrival date.

  • You can book up to 6 months in advance.

  • Yes, golf carts are allowed, though no other types of Off-road vehicles are permitted. Golf cart must remain on paved or gravel roads at all times. All drivers must be a minimum of 16 years old. Owner is responsible for any damages and is required to have insurance.

  • Yes, we have overnight security on Friday & Saturday nights from 7pm-3am. This security agent will be patrolling the grounds during those times and has authority to enforce our rules and call police as necessary. We cannot assume responsibility for any personal items in your camp site.
